As part of what we offer as an all-inclusive social organization, we always plan to ensure that the needs of our members are met, by creating not only in-house activities but also being open to other activities in the community that may interest our members.
When you become a member of the Cairns and District Senior Citizens Association you will be able to join in on our special events that will engage you physically and mentally.

Hands On, Life Saving, CPR Training at Senior Citz!
June 10th 2025
Cairns First Aid Training facilitated an engaging CPR session with Gary Woolrich on June 11th at Senior Citz. There were 18 Attendees and it was noted that one of the attendees, a retired nurse, commented that it was the best training she'd ever attended. We now have many qualified volunteers if needed. Mother’s Day Celebration at Senior Citz – A Joyous Affair!

Our Mother’s Day celebration was a heartfelt and lively gathering, with 40 attendees coming together to honour the wonderful women in our community.
The entertainment was nothing short of spectacular, with a fabulous performance by Doris Munro and her spirited crew. Their energy was infectious, and to everyone’s delight, every gentleman present joined in the fun! One gentleman even shared that he hadn’t danced since his wedding day — a truly touching moment that brought smiles all around.
We were also treated to sensational music by GEM, a talented new group formed by former members of Off the Record. With David on piano and Heather and Gracie on vocals, they delivered a vibrant set that had toes tapping and hearts full.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event so special — it was a wonderful afternoon of laughter, connection, and celebration.
Celebrating Volunteers Week
May 19th - 26th 2025
As part of Volunteers Week, our very own Alison had the pleasure of being interviewed on ABC Far North with Charlie. She spoke beautifully about the heart and soul of our organisation — our incredible volunteers — and shared her own experiences at Cairns Senior Citizens. From running activities to keeping the centre thriving, it’s our volunteers who make it all happen.
We also had a fantastic time representing CDSCA at VEXPO at the Tanks in Edge Hill! It was a fun, vibrant event where we connected with many wonderful people and community groups. We held a raffle giving away two free memberships — congratulations to the lucky winners!
A big thank you to the volunteers who helped at the stall and made it all possible. Your energy and passion are truly appreciated.
Our Trip to the Aquarium – Seniors Engagement in Conservation
May 14th 2025
What a fantastic day on our recent visit to the Cairns Aquarium, with 31 participants joining us for an engaging and educational experience focused on marine conservation.
Our day started with a talk at Seniors Citz—a special highlight was learning about the incredible work being done to protect our precious sea turtles — thank you to Colleen Lander for her warm and informative presentation, which left us all feeling inspired and more connected to the ocean and its creatures.
We then had a delicious lunch at Treasure Court Chinese Restaurant just across the road, and afterwards, we had a tour through the aquarium exploring the exhibits and marvelling at the marine life.
Thank you to everyone who came along — it was a lovely day filled with learning, laughter, and good company.
Seniors in Conservation Day – A Wonderful Success!
April 23rd 2025
Our first "Seniors Engagement in Conservation" day was a fantastic success, with 33 enthusiastic participants coming together to learn, share, and connect around environmental issues close to home and beyond.
Parley Australia & CAFNEC kicked things off with two insightful local speakers who shared powerful stories about how pollution affects our land and Indigenous communities' lives. With eye-opening visual presentations on plastic and water pollution, coral bleaching, and the broader impacts of deforestation. Their knowledge and passion truly set the tone for the day.

We explored climate solutions at the global, national, and individual levels — with a strong focus on what seniors can do to make a difference. The discussions were thoughtful, inspiring, and filled with practical ideas for action.

Easter Parade and Musical Birthday Afternoon (April)
What a Wonderful Afternoon!
Everyone had such a fantastic time at our Easter, Birthday, and Musical Afternoon! The room was filled with colour, laughter, and so many fabulous hats — it was clear that everyone went all out with their outfits and truly embraced the festive spirit.
A big highlight of the day was the incredible performance by the Philippines dance group, who wowed us all with their lively rendition of “New York, New York”. The energy was contagious — before we knew it, the dance floor was full and everyone was up dancing and having a ball!
We celebrated just one special birthday this month, and she was absolutely glowing as we all joined in a heartfelt rendition of “Happy Birthday.”
It was a joyful day full of music, movement, and beautiful community connection. Thank you to everyone who came along and made it so memorable!

Our Volunteers Christmas Lunch was an absolute joy! It was so heartwarming to see everyone come together to celebrate the incredible work our volunteers do throughout the year.
The laughter, delicious food, and festive cheer made for such a memorable day. A big THANK YOU to everyone who joined us and to those who helped make this event so special.
Your dedication, kindness, and support truly make a difference in our community. We are so grateful for each and every one of you.

Members Christmas Musical Lunch
With the end of the year upon us, all of us at Cairns Senior Citizens have been busy, busy, busy! One of our highlights was the recent Members Christmas Musical Lunch, and what a joyful celebration it was!
We welcomed 40 attendees who enjoyed delicious food lovingly prepared by our amazing volunteers. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, good cheer, and plenty of holiday spirit.
A special moment of the day was when the wonderful Doris Munro led everyone in a lively singalong to The 12 Days of Christmas. It was heartwarming to see the smiles, hear the laughter, and feel the festive energy in the room.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event so special. Here’s to more laughter, good times, and community in the year ahead!

Our Christmas party on the 11th Dec with the talented "Off The Record" musicians was a fantastic success!
We had a joyful afternoon filled with fun, dancing, and festive cheer. Highlights included a lively parade showcasing everyone’s favourite Christmas outfits, with prizes awarded for the best dressed.
A big thank you to our amazing volunteers for preparing a delicious lunch that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. A jolly time was had by all!
